E-voting Service Provider Reminds You to Exercise Shareholders’ Rights and Protect Personal Information

2018/04/30

Each year, April to June is the peak season for shareholders’ meetings of TWSE-listed, TPEx-listed, and emerging companies. To provide more convenient services, Taiwan Depository & Clearing Corporation (TDCC) designed Stockvote, an e-voting platform for shareholders’ meetings, in 2009. Since then, shareholders can vote without the limitations of time and space. They can vote online and participate in shareholders’ meetings as long as they connect to Stockvote via devices linked to the Internet such as computers or smartphones, or with their securities firms’ APPs. To further protect shareholders’ rights, TDCC launched ePASSBOOK, which is connected to Stockvote, in June 2017. Once shareholders successfully register, they can not only check the number of their shares, but they can also vote online.

Recently, some people created websites to obtain personal information and digital certificates to take shareholders’ gifts or attend lucky draw activities as proxies. Shareholders’ personal information is leaked and their rights are infringed because their digital certificates are used in illegal activities. Shareholders should prevent their personal data from leakage due to some small convenient services. To protect shareholder’s rights and secure their personal information, TDCC launched ePASSBOOK APP with fast and convenient application channels. The services of the APP keep improving. The Stock Transaction Helper of the APP will notify investors of stock information to ensure that investors receive every important piece of information.

To encourage natural persons to participate in e-voting actively, TDCC has held lucky draw activities for e-voting in shareholders’ meetings seven years in a row. Till 2018, the total prize value has been up to NT$3.5 million with near 28,000 prizes. The biggest prize is the postal vouchers with NT$50,000 market value. In addition, to attract more investors to use ePASSBOOK which helps go green, conserve energy, and reduce carbon emission, only those who have connected ePASSBOOK to Stockvote (excluding Stockvote PC, Stockvote APP, and securities firms’ APPs that connect to Stockvote) can participate in the lucky draw activity this year. Investors who haven’t been the users of ePASSBOOK should apply to securities firms as soon as possible to secure the opportunity to join the lucky draw activity. TDCC hopes that you can hit the jackpot.
