2018/04/16
The 1st TDCC Archery Friendly Match organized and patronaged by Taiwan Depository & Clearing Corporation (TDCC) has concluded after a day’s fierce fight on April 14 at Hsinchu Municipal FuLi Junior High School. Szu Chen Junior High School won the first place in the junior high school men’s doubles with FuLi Junior High School trailing behind as the second. FuLi Junior High School won the first place in the women’s doubles with Szu Chen Junior High School as the second. FuLi Junior High School won the first place in the mixed doubles with Szu Chen Junior High School as the second. As for the elementary school part, Ji-An Elementary School won the first in the men’s doubles with Jian Qing Elementary School as the second. Hsiang Shan Primary School won the first place in women’s doubles with Ji-An Elementary School as the second. Hsiang Shan Primary School won the first in the mixed doubles with Ji-An Elementary School as the second.
Meng Ching-Li, TDCC President (in the middle); and Gloria Ching (the fourth person from the right), Secretary General; donated a check to seven schools: FuLi Junior High School, Fongsi Junior High School, Jen-Ho Junior High School, Szu Chen Junior High School, Ji-An Elementary School, Jian Ching Elementary School, and Hsiang Shan Primary School.
The seven schools in the friendly match are junior high and elementary schools from the northern, southern, and middle parts of Taiwan, making the match very meaningful. The teams of Ji-An Elementary School and Jian Ching Elementary School had arrived the venue one day before the match because they had to travel from Hualien to Hsinchu. The TDCC managers formed a cheerleading team for the children. It was the first time that those children competed archery in front of such a big crowd, so they all brought out their best performance, hoping to display what they’d learned in training.
The competent authority has been encouraging the financial sector to devote themselves to charity. In response, TDCC also helps support physical activities. Since the 2016 semester year, TDCC has been the sponsor of schools recommended by the Sports Administration, e.g., Taoyuan Municipal Jen-Ho Junior High School, Szu Chen Junior High School in Taichung City, Kaohsiung Municipal Fongsi Junior High School, Hsinchu Municipal FuLi Junior High School, and Ji-An Elementary School in Hualian County. In the 2017 semester year, Jian Ching Elementary School in Hualian County was added to the list. In primary and junior high schools’ archery programs which are sponsored, young archers can develop their skills steadily. Learning resources are provided, so children from the underprivileged class will be able to have more training, better equipment, and more opportunities to attend competitions.
Meng Ching-Li, TDCC President, stated that teenagers are the hope of archery in Taiwan. The archers were hardworking; their coaches were dedicated; the corporate was supportive—that was why these children from rural areas delivered such excellent performance and children from rural areas could pursue their dreams of becoming archers. Meng also wanted to thank the coaching staff for their selfless contribution and dedication, so that their archers could hit the target in the match. He also encouraged the archers to work together during the match and to learn from one another after the match. If these young archers can seize every learning opportunity, they may be an archery star in Taiwan some day.
In addition, Meng especially pointed out that when TDCC had decided to support schools’ archery teams, they provided recurve bows and compound bows used in international competitions. Jian Ching Elementary School in Hualian County is located in rural areas and has no budget, so they could only purchase long bows. It was unfavorable for their students who wanted to compete in the international arena. TDCC immediately offered sponsorship fees when they knew about the school’s predicament. The school changed their long bows into recurve bows and compound bows, giving students in rural areas more opportunities to stand out in archery matches.
TDCC understands the importance of physical activity development and is dedicated to basic physical education. TDCC will provide more resources to physical activities in rural areas in the future, helping nurture national archers and building a healthy Taiwan.
