"Why are Cloud Gate dancers so elegant and handsome?" "How many hours a day do Cloud Gate dancers practice to achieve such graceful dance moves?" "How can I join Cloud Gate?" Faced with a series of curious questions from high school students, Cloud Gate dancers respond in a humorous and entertaining manner, filling the Miaobei Arts Center Performance Hall with the joyful laughter of children. It truly represents the most beautiful cultural scenery.
To promote arts education among students in rural areas, TDCC has exclusively sponsored the "2023 Cloud Gate Special Performance for Art Education Promotion". This marks the fourth year of cooperation between TDCC and Cloud Gate Foundation. Starting from May, the performances have been held successively at the National Taichung Theater, National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying), Miaobei Arts Center, Chiayi Performing Arts Center, and Taitung Art and Culture Center. Nearly 5,000 students from 45 junior high and senior high schools in the central and southern regions were invited to attend a total of 5 performances, experiencing firsthand Cloud Gate classic work "Legacy,". TDCC has expressed its support for promoting artistic and cultural development in rural schools.
Cloud Gate Foundation has been organizing long-term arts education activities, hoping to cultivate a sense of aesthetic appreciation among the public and enriching their life experiences by fostering greater engagement with art. This year, coincides with Cloud Gate’s 50th anniversary, the classic work "Legacy" of its founder Lin Hwai-min is being restaged. In conjunction with the regular tour, Cloud Gate Foundation has organized five special performances for rural areas students who usually don’t have the opportunity to experience performing arts, and inviting them to personally visit the theater and watch the dance performance. They can feel the hardships of the pioneers in the history textbooks, the arduous journey through the mountains and forests, and the festive celebrations with colorful flags flying. This also provides the students with their first theater experience, with the artists explaining the performance content as well as the behind-the-scenes technical aspects such as stage, lighting, costumes, and sound. The mysterious veil hidden from the audience's view is unveiled. At the same time, an essay competition is held after the performance, and certificates are awarded to encourage outstanding students. This allows the students to step out of the classroom and personally experience Taiwanese art, planting cultural seeds in their hearts and truly understanding that art is a profound and exquisite part of life.
TDCC is committed to caring for society on a long-term basis and actively responding to and addressing the needs of society through three main aspects: "nurturing future financial talents, promoting rural education, and caring for disadvantage groups."
