2018/07/16
The Chinese Taipei Roller Sports Team brings good news again! Yang He-Zhen competed in the 2018 Inline Speed Skating World Championships in Arnhem, the Netherlands on July 8. She beat Francesca Lollobrigida, an Italian competitor who won four Gold Medals last year in the same competition, with 1 hour 10 minutes 33 seconds 435 milliseconds. Yang won the Women’s Marathon (42.195km) by five milliseconds faster. Near 500 competitors from over 50 countries joined the 2018 Championships. The Women’s Marathon had 146 skaters, yet she sprang into the lead and crossed the finish line first, showing her vigor and strength as a skating queen.
In the 2017 Summer Universiade, Yang bagged five Gold Medals and one Bronze Medal. It is still an inspiring story that people talk about in Taiwan. The nationals have witnessed the hard work and potential of young people, and her exciting story has boosted physical activities in Taiwan. Yang is also the best role model for other young athletes due to her perseverance and hard work that helped her have her remarkable achievements.
Yang and Wu Jiong-Zhu, her coach, have cooperated and practiced for 18 years. Their story is just like other Taiwanese skaters’ stories. Their traditional training hit a bottleneck, so they turned to scientific ways. They incorporated sports science and finally achieved a real breakthrough. Yang defeated outstanding skaters from all over the world with such few recourses. The whole world has just observed an excellent skater from Taiwan. It is touching and admiring that Taiwan is once again seen by the international community.
TDCC has always supported youths to pursue their dreams and dedicated to charity work. Yang’s hard work and potential were recognized, so TDCC contacted her and said that TDCC would like to be her long-term sponsor. Yang, as a generous woman, required to donate what she had received from TDCC to Dawan Elementary School, her alma mater in Tainan, where she was trained and nurtured, after discussing with her coach. Yang hopes that students there can have a better learning environment and facilities.
It takes at least ten years to nurture a skater from the very beginning to international races. Yang took real action to support her alma mater to train young skaters. TDCC is planning on keeping its promise and being a long-term sponsor for the elementary school’s skating team. The company hopes to help the students with Yang, and there will be more skaters like Yang in the future. Let’s hope that these little athletes can stand out in international races and set new records about roller skating in Taiwan’s sports history.
