TDCC Establishes a Situation Room for Effective Monitoring During the Peak of Live-Streamed Shareholder Meetings

2022/05/30

As the speak season of shareholder meetings arrived this year (2022), 103 and 121 TWSE-listed (TPEX-listed) companies and emerging stock companies held shareholder meetings on May 26 and May 27 respectively. Among these companies, 10 companies and 9 companies held live-stream-aided shareholder meetings on a separate date. Since TDCC launched the “Shareholder Virtual Meeting Platform” on April 1 to comply with the FSC’s digitalization policy and meet the needs for disease prevention, the first peak of intensive use of livestreamed meetings has formed.

As the regulation regarding livestreamed meetings was added to the Company Act in 2018, publicly owned corporations were originally excluded. However, due to the digital wave and severe pandemic, last year (2021), the FSC granted authorization through special legislation, allowing 17 companies to try out livestream during the pandemic last year. This year, the legal basis has been officially constructed, and 72 corporations adopted livestream for their shareholder meetings through TDCC’s efforts in promotion. After the first company, PSMC, livestreamed its shareholder meeting on April 26, only one to two corporations used livestream per day on average. Not until May 26, when the peak of shareholder meetings arrived, did 10 corporations adopt livestreamed shareholder meetings for the first time.

According to TDCC’s President, Han-Chiang Chu, livestreamed shareholder meeting, a brand-new system, may seem a bit unfamiliar to corporations and shareholders, but there have been 72 corporations applying for this model this year. Besides, to ensure a smooth process for every livestreamed meeting, TDCC has set up a situation room, monitoring the whole connection of each livestream and tracking the real-time status of the platform. The upcoming peak arrives on June 17, when 11 corporations, including many financial holding companies, will be holding livestreamed-aided shareholder meetings. It is predicted that more shareholders will be present, and TDCC has been fully prepared already. TDCC has great confidence in providing stable livestream connections and supporting corporations to complete their annual general meetings.

According to TDCC’s statistics, there have been 26 corporations holding live-streamed-aided meetings until May 27, and there will be another 46 corporations applying livestream to their meetings until June 30. During the registration period, shareholders can register on TDCC’s Shareholder Virtual Meeting Platform (https://www.stockvote.com.tw/evote/index.html) to attend the livestreamed shareholder meetings. Please see more details on TDCC’s website—” Shareholder Virtual Meeting Platform Area” for the instructions to participate in online shareholder meetings.
