2022/09/19

The 8th TDCC Financial Literacy for Youth program started in nine universities across Taiwan on September 17, 2022, with the enrollment of 493 new graduates of 34 colleges and universities. In his recorded opening remarks, Dr. Tien-Mu Huang, Chairperson of the Financial Supervisory Commission urged all participating students to work hard and finish the training program, so that they may pass the financial certification tests and pursue a career in the financial industry.

Dr. Huang emphasized that the program combines theories and practices, and with the best lecturers one can find in this country, it is designed to equip students with professional industry know-how. He also noted that the financial industry has an important role to play in every stage of our lives, and learning about the industry knowledge is conducive to the fulfillment of one’s dreams. The knowledge and skills that the students are to acquire from the program will be helpful even if they don’t work in the financial industry in the future. As such, he hoped that the students would take the opportunity to learn as much as they can and use their knowledge to help build a better society.

TDCC Chairman Han-Chiang Chu said TDCC has long been committed to fulfilling its ESG duties and strived to realize financial inclusion for the betterment of the society. The Financial Literacy for Youth program was created by TDCC in 2015 in collaboration with other financial institutions and organizations. The program is open to college students with a financially disadvantageous background. Over the past seven years, 3,012 students had completed the training program and the majority of them had passed several financial certification tests (over 10,000 certificates in total were issued to the students). TDCC also provides job-matching services to those who finished the training program.

The 8th Financial Literacy for Youth program will run from September 2022 to March 2023. Students will spend a total of 170 hours on weekends learning financial industry knowledge and skills. Given the government’s Covid-19 prevention guidelines, TDCC has put in place the option of remote learning in case the pandemic worsens again. The tuition fees and the costs of meals, books, and financial certification exams are all covered by TDCC. In addition, the students will also receive allowances from TDCC. To ensure that the courses are not disrupted by the pandemic and to strengthen students’ digital literacy, an experimental all-online session is open for the first time to students in eastern Taiwan, so that they can study without the constraints of time and space.

At TDCC, we believe it is essential that we sow the seed of love. Moving forward, TDCC will continue to work closely with partner financial institutions and universities, and leverage the professionals and resources in the industry and academia for the education of the students to help them reverse the adversity in life.
