TDCC Financial Literacy for Youth Program: Supporting Financially Disadvantaged Students through Knowledge

The 2023 9th TDCC Financial Literacy for Youth Program organized by TDCC, simultaneously commenced 9 classes across northern, central, southern, and eastern regions on September 16th. This year, there were 500 senior students from 39 colleges and universities with financially disadvantaged backgrounds participating the Financial Literacy for Youth Program. Tsuey-Ling Hsiao, Vice Chairperson of the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC), personally visited the class in Taipei at Chihlee University of Technology, encouraging all students to seize this opportunity to enhance their competitiveness in the financial industry, as well as chasing the financial dreams to transform their lives. The speech was also broadcast live at the other 8 classes.

Vice Chairperson Hsiao emphasized the close connection between different stages of life and the financial industry. The TDCC Financial Literacy for Youth Program combines theory and practice, providing the best instructors and a comprehensive curriculum. Through these classes, participants can enhance their financial expertise, ultimately raising their own value. She encouraged the students to make good use of their financial knowledge and contribute to society in the future, actively shaping a better community.

Bing-Huei Lin, Chairman of TDCC, stated that TDCC has long been committed to promoting ESG values, with a strong focus on social aspects, especially caring for disadvantaged individuals. The objective of this Financial Literacy for Youth Program is to strengthen the employment competitiveness of students with financially disadvantaged backgrounds by harnessing the philanthropic power of the financial industry. TDCC expressed gratitude for the joint sponsorship of organizations including the Taiwan Stock Exchange, Taiwan Futures Exchange, Taipei Exchange, Financial Information Service Co., Joint Credit Information Center, and Taiwan-CA Inc, among others. Since the 2015 academic year, approximately 30 million New Taiwan Dollars have been invested annually, completing 8 Financial Literacy for Youth Program with 3,333 students completed the program. These classes have nurtured many diligent and dedicated professionals for the financial industry, with 75% of the graduates entered the financial industry.

The 2023 Academic Year (9th) TDCC Financial Literacy for Youth Program will run from September 2023 to March 2024, with classes held on Saturdays and Sundays, totaling 170 hours. The program provides students with lunch, textbooks, living allowances, and examination fees for licenses. It also establishes various learning and employment incentive mechanisms. Upon completion of the program, students will be matched with more than 1,000 job vacancies provided by various financial institutions. This series of pre-employment training programs helps students join the stable financial industry and improve their family's financial situation.

TDCC has a long history of supporting underprivileged and children in the rural area. TDCC understands their limited family resources and believing that education is their only chance to change their destiny. TDCC will continue to use its core resources to help each student in the Financial Literacy for Youth Program strengthen their professional skills and workplace ethics education, assisting young people in realizing their financial dreams and transforming their lives.
