2025/04/15

On April 15, the Taiwan Depository and Clearing Corporation (TDCC) held the “2025 TDCC ESG Service Conference—Toward an Asian Asset Management Center” at the Le Méridien Taipei. Deputy Chairperson of the Financial Supervisory Commission, Dr. Yen-Liang Chen, delivered the opening speech, and the event attracted over 300 representatives from listed companies and institutional investors.

TDCC Chairman Dr. Bing-Huei Lin, speaking on behalf of the host, stated that TDCC is continuing to roll out a range of ESG services this year. These include new offerings for listed companies at shareholders’ meetings, such as access to proxy voting recommendation reports from international proxy advisor ISS. TDCC is also launching a new sustainability performance service to help institutional investors calculate the carbon footprint of their investment portfolios.

Looking ahead, TDCC will continue to play a more active role in ESG topics through its recent membership in three major international organizations: the International Capital Market Association (ICMA), the International Corporate Governance Network (ICGN), and the International Securities Services Association (ISSA). These connections will facilitate deeper collaboration with both domestic and international market participants, institutional investors, and securities service providers.

The conference began with Mr. Amar Gill, Secretary General of the Asian Corporate Governance Association (ACGA), sharing insights into stewardship practices and challenges in the Asian region. The talk was followed by Dr. Christine Chow, CEO of the climate think tank Tracker Group, who discussed recent observations at the intersection of AI, climate, and investment.

During the panel discussion, heads of Asian research from the two major global proxy advisory agencies, ISS and Glass Lewis, were invited to share industry trends and developments. ESG heads from several foreign institutional investors in the Asia-Pacific region also participated, offering insights and suggestions on the current challenges facing ESG investment.

TDCC also revealed that this year it is launching several innovative ESG services. Among them are the newly introduced ISS proxy research reports, which will cover as many as 1,300 listed companies in Taiwan, benefiting approximately 70% of the Taiwanese stock market. In addition, the sustainability performance service, scheduled to be officially launched mid-year, will assist institutional investors in calculating the carbon footprints of their domestic equity and corporate bond portfolios—streamlining related operations and delivering greater value to investors.
