TDCC Attends ICMA Annual General Meeting in the UK to Promote the Sustainable Commercial Paper System

2026/05/29

Ambassador Yao Chin-Hsiang from the Taipei Representative Office in the UK visits the venue to meet with the ICMA Chief Executive, joining hands with competent authorities, TPEx, and TDCC to showcase the achievements of dual transformation.

As the Taiwan stock market repeatedly hits new highs, Taiwan has advanced to become one of the world's top 5 capital markets. To sustain this strong investment momentum and deepen international connections, the Taiwan Depository & Clearing Corporation (TDCC) recently joined forces with the London Office of the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) and the Taipei Exchange (TPEx) to attend the 58th International Capital Market Association (ICMA) Annual General Meeting & Conference 2026 in London, UK.

This year's annual meeting witnessed a major milestone combining diplomacy and finance. Ambassador Yao Chin-Hsiang of the Taipei Representative Office in the UK made a special visit to the conference venue and met with ICMA Chief Executive Bryan Pascoe. The two sides engaged in profound and fruitful exchanges of views on global sustainable finance trends, the internationalization of Taiwan's capital market, and opportunities for bilateral cooperation, injecting strong momentum into Taiwan's financial cooperation.

The ICMA Annual General Meeting was grandly held in London from May 27 to 29, attracting more than 1,200 representatives from government agencies, financial institutions, institutional investors, market infrastructure institutions, and international media from about 60 countries worldwide. During the meeting, participants engaged in in-depth exchanges and discussions on forward-looking topics such as cross-border capital markets, financial innovation, sustainable finance, and international regulatory frameworks.

TDCC President Daniel Chen stated that this trip is of profound milestone significance. Not only is it a joint effort by TDCC and TPEx to participate in the international annual meeting together, but it is also the first time that Taiwan's competent authorities, TPEx, and TDCC have jointly set up an exhibition booth on the premier international stage of ICMA. Combined with the personal guidance and diplomatic support of Ambassador Yao Chin-Hsiang, the Taiwan-themed booth actively attracted global investment and effectively promoted the international competitiveness and unique advantages of Taiwan's capital market.

The exhibition booth introduced TPEx's "Sustainable Bond Services" and TDCC's "Sustainable Commercial Paper Services" to the international market. The outstanding results of this "dual transformation" in digital and sustainable innovation caught the attention of numerous international attendees. Through substantive interactions with representatives of international financial institutions and market participants at the booth, the Taiwan team not only deepened multilateral exchanges in the field of sustainable finance but also effectively expanded the international visibility of Taiwan's capital market, further enhancing foreign investors' willingness and confidence to participate in the Taiwan market in the future.

About the International Capital Market Association (ICMA) and Future Cultivation Plans

Established in 1969, the International Capital Market Association (ICMA) currently has over 630 member institutions across 70 markets globally. As a capital market organization with profound international influence, it has long been committed to promoting the sound development of the international bond market and formulating globally adopted international standards such as the Green Bond Principles (GBP) and the Sustainability Bond Guidelines.

Since officially joining the organization in 2025, TDCC has continued to promote the digitalization of market infrastructure, cross-border services, and sustainable finance-related businesses in recent years, actively participating in international organizations and exchange activities. TDCC emphasized that by jointly setting up a booth and exhibiting with TPEx and competent authorities for the first time, and with the full assistance of the Taipei Representative Office in the UK, it is able to grasp the forward-looking trends of the international capital market in real time, serving as an important reference for Taiwan's future system planning and business development. In the future, TDCC will continue to promote the integration of Taiwan's market with international standards, comprehensively strengthening the international competitiveness of Taiwan's capital market.
