2024 TDCC Art Award: Shaping a New Era of Cultural Public Welfare
2024/12/26
To deepen the commitment to cultural sustainability, the Taiwan Depository & Clearing Corporation (TDCC) held the "2024 TDCC Art Award" ceremony on December 26 at the King Car Cultural & Art Center. With a total prize pool of NT$1.18 million, the event celebrates and encourages artists to pursue lifelong creativity, emphasizing the vision of art as a lifelong vocation. The grand ceremony was both significant and impressive.
TDCC Chairman Bing-Huei Lin, during the award presentation, referenced iconic figures such as Cheng-po Chen, Vincent van Gogh, and Franz Kafka to illustrate that art and culture transcend politics and capital. He noted that art reflects the zeitgeist while simultaneously transcending it. Through the "2024 TDCC Art Award," TDCC continues its dedication to supporting the arts community by providing a nurturing environment, richer resources, more opportunities, and diverse platforms to foster cross-disciplinary possibilities and cultivate fertile ground for artistic development, expanding the horizons of cultural public welfare.
Chairman Lin emphasized that the pursuit of art is a lifelong journey, with time being the ultimate judge of an artwork’s value. A truly outstanding piece of art, he noted, can withstand the test of time. He also shared an inspiring quote from U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg: "Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you." He encouraged artists to engage in cross-disciplinary learning, sustain their creative endeavors, and pursue collaboration and shared growth.
Marking TDCC’s 35th anniversary, this year’s award adopts the theme "Vision Taiwan" aiming to inspire innovation within tradition, addressing contemporary life and local humanistic values. It aligns with TDCC’s core values: "Inheriting without being conservative, innovating while staying rooted." The company integrates new technologies while maintaining a human-centered approach, striving to deliver a "warm and humanized" digital financial experience.
The "2024 TDCC Art Award" were curated by the School of Fine Arts at Taipei National University of the Arts in collaboration with the King Car Cultural & Educational Foundation. The awards featured an open call for two-dimensional works. Artists whose works advanced to the second round were invited to participate in a group exhibition at the King Car Cultural & Art Center's Chengde Space. Gold, silver, and bronze award winners will also have the opportunity to host solo exhibitions next year. This two-year exhibition plan is designed to amplify the creative potential of the artists while maximizing the impact of the TDCC Art Award.
A panel of seven judges, comprising experts from the art industry, academia, and creative fields, evaluated the 181 submissions based on thematic focus, creativity, aesthetic quality, completeness, and spatial presentation. Ultimately, 11 pieces were selected to receive the Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards, Honorable Mentions, and the TDCC Popularity Award. The winning artworks are currently on display at the King Car Cultural & Art Center’s Chengde Space. The exhibition runs from now until January 12, 2025. The public is warmly invited to visit and enjoy these remarkable creations.
