Over 550,000 Sheets of Paper Saved! TDCC’s "eCounter" Wins Prestigious Asia ESG Award for Carbon Reduction
2026/06/30
Taiwan Depository & Clearing Corporation (TDCC) has once again earned international recognition for its achievements in driving the digital transformation of sustainable finance. At the 16th Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards (AREA) ceremony—widely regarded as Asia’s benchmark ESG award, hosted by Enterprise Asia on June 26 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia—TDCC received the prestigious Green Leadership Award for its "eCounter for Shareholder Services: A New Digital Benchmark, Zero-Distance Service" initiative, demonstrating the outstanding achievements of Taiwan's financial market infrastructure in promoting digital innovation and sustainable development.
From B2B to B2C: Forging an Inclusive Green Digital Ecosystem
Bing-Huei Lin, Chairman of TDCC, emphasized that TDCC is not only fully committed to modernizing post-trade operations and steering the securities market toward a net-zero transition, but is also actively implementing a twin-axis strategy of "Digital Finance" and "Sustainable Governance" through innovative thinking. By connecting issuing companies with the vast investing public, TDCC is fostering a low-carbon, highly efficient, and more inclusive financial services environment.
To deliver tangible carbon-reduction benefits to Taiwan’s more than 10 million investors, TDCC has expanded its digital services from institutional clients to individual investors, creating a comprehensive digital ecosystem that includes eVoting, eMeeting, eNotice, eCounter, and eGift services. By leveraging digital certificates and mobile signature technologies, shareholders can open accounts and update their personal information entirely online, translating the vision of "letting data do the traveling so shareholders don't have to" into reality while advancing financial inclusion.
Digital Innovation Drives Carbon Reduction, Creating Dual Environmental and Social Value
Beyond enhancing operational efficiency for shareholders, The eCounter have delivered substantial environmental benefits. As of today, 2,109 listed, emerging stock and public companies have integrated the system, processing nearly 110,000 shareholder applications market-wide. Calculating an average savings of 5 sheets of A4 paper per application, the service has prevented the consumption of approximately 550,000 sheets of paper. This translates to an annual reduction of over 4 metric tons of CO₂ emissions—equivalent to the annual carbon sequestration of 348 trees. As the service continues to expand its scope and adoption, these carbon reduction benefits will grow even faster.
The award is not only an endorsement of TDCC’s dedication to digital innovation and green governance, but it also underscores the collective achievements of Taiwan’s financial markets in advancing sustainable finance. Looking ahead, TDCC remains committed to embedding ESG principles across its operations by harnessing technology to empower its core businesses, reducing the carbon footprint of financial services, and accelerating green economic development through digital innovation. Working closely with market participants, TDCC will continue to drive the sustainable transformation of Taiwan's financial sector.
