COVID-free ways to Attend Shareholder Meetings? E-Voting Has You Covered

2022/04/15

Many investors are prepared for the upcoming peak season of shareholder meetings, where they can access first-hand information on operations of publicly-listed companies and safeguard their rights as shareholders. However, the recent spike of local COVID-19 cases has raised concerns about cluster infections that may result from physically attending shareholder meetings.

In response, the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) continues to encourage investors to participate in the meetings via electronic voting systems, instead of attending in person. The Taiwan Depository & Clearing Corporation (TDCC) offers three major channels for shareholders, which have clear interfaces, are easy to use and, more importantly, allow all investors to join meetings and exercise their voting rights anytime and anywhere. Online voting is the optimal choice to promote shareholder activism and effectively avoid cluster infections, just as masks are used to prevent infections and safeguard our health.

Is E-Voting easy? Definitely! Ms. Zhen-Zhen Huang, TDCC's Senior Vice President of Issuer Services, says that when you, the shareholder, choose the most convenient access to the E-Voting platform, you will see TDCC has already thoughtfully presented the stocks you have the voting right for and in E-Voting period. The platform will allow you to vote without any trouble. Currently, there are three channels to E-Voting:

(1) TDCC ePASSBOOK APP: at the bottom of the front page (my assets), tap the shortcut “StockVote.” (2) Securities firm Order APP: after activating the APP, tap "E-Voting," and you are connected to the platform. (For information regarding the APPs of different securities companies, please refer to StockVote website) (3) StockVote website: click on "general shareholder" and select the corresponding certificate for log-in. Natural persons shall prepare one of the following: citizen digital certificate, securities firm online ordering certificate, online banking certificate, and TW FidO. Legal persons shall prepare one of the following: MOEACA ID card, securities futures certificate.

For shareholders without a computer or card reader at hand, voting through the mobile APP or via TW FidO is the most convenient and fastest way. Let’s assist disease prevention with technology and let the world witness the disease prevention momentum of Taiwan’s capital market.
