TDCC Partners with TSITMA to Promote Indigenous Carbon Sequestration and Sustainability, Becoming the First Company to Sign MOU on Indigenous Carbon Sequestration

2024/11/25

On November 25, the Taiwan Depository & Clearing Corporation (TDCC) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Taiwan Successive Indigenous Township Mayor Association (TSITMA), becoming the first company in Taiwan to collaborate with the association in advancing land conservation, afforestation in indigenous regions, and the preservation of indigenous cultures. The collaboration not only fosters natural carbon sequestration but also helps our company achieve its ESG goals and promotes sustainable development.

The signing ceremony was officiated by TDCC Chairman Lin Bing-Huei and TSITMA Chairman Pan Rong-Zong, with attendees including Legislator Wu Li-Hua, Deputy Director-General Huang Hou-Ming of the Securities and Futures Bureau, Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC), Deputy Director-General Hsu Hsu-Cheng of the Climate Change Administration, Ministry of Environment, and Director Wang Rui-Ying of the Economic Development Department, Council of Indigenous Peoples. Huang Hou-Ming emphasized that promoting natural carbon sequestration in indigenous regions and achieving corporate net-zero emissions requires inter-agency collaboration between the Ministry of Environment, the Council of Indigenous Peoples, the FSC, and other relevant authorities to achieve a synergistic effect greater than the sum of its parts. In addition to fully supporting corporate green transformation through various policies, the FSC also encourages companies to integrate the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into their net-zero carbon emissions pathways, thereby fulfilling social responsibilities and achieving ESG goals.

The five-year collaboration between TDCC and the TSITMA will involve a professional team comprising indigenous communities, experts and scholars, verification agencies, as well as legal and accounting firms. This team will plan indigenous carbon sequestration conservation projects and leverage the association's Indigenous Carbon Sequestration ESG Public Welfare Platform to connect corporations with relevant indigenous organizations. Through these projects, corporations can support forest conservation, promote indigenous crops and crafts, and gain access to natural carbon sequestration, achieving a win-win outcome for the environment, businesses, and indigenous communities.

TDCC Chairman Lin Bing-Huei highlighted TDCC has been actively promoting carbon reduction and net-zero emissions in recent years. In addition to achieving organizational carbon neutrality by 2023, TDCC will continue working towards its goal of net-zero emissions by 2030. In addition, guided by its core philosophy of "Altruism and Mutual Benefit," TDCC actively drives green transformation, while also simultaneously responding to the UN SDGs. This indigenous carbon sequestration project in collaboration with the TSITMA not only aids the company in achieving net-zero emissions but also revitalizes indigenous culture and economic development, contributing to the well-being of Taiwan. TDCC aims to create lasting positive impacts on both the environment and society through innovative collaboration models.
